Benjamin "Benny" E. Smith, age 74, of Newport, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime member of the Newport Rescue Squad, and a member of Harned Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harrison and Beatrice Irene Smith; and his daughter Donna Smith.

He is survived by his wife Gay Nell Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jen Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Ricky Ball of Newport, Michelle and Terry Finchum of Dandridge; daughter Tanya Smith of Newport; grandchildren, Craig and Eddie Campbell, Ashley and Logan Foust, Nicole Ball, Kenzie Smith, Alex Smith, Jacee Smith; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Zak Finchum; great-grandchildren, Isaac Campbell, Ashlyn Campbell, Truslin Story, Zakiah Story and August Story; and mother-in-law, Unave Cobble of Newport.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Harned Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick Spell and Rev. David Neel officiating. Burial will follow in Harned Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
