He was of the Baptist faith, member of the Newport No. 234 Masonic Lodge and Knoxville Scottish Rite. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to camp, fish and most of all he loved devoting his time to his grandsons.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hulda Mae Gray, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eugene and Blackie Cureton, and his wonderful sister-in-law Patricia Cureton.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Gray; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Roger Stokely; grandsons, Brandon and Jordan Stokely; sister and brother in law Vernice and Vernon Troutman; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Carroll Cureton, Bob and Sue Shults, Dale and Bindy Ottinger, and Jerry and Donna Cureton; many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends; and special lifetime friends, Linda Smith and Jack Rector.

Per his request graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
