Jean Evans McCarter, age 78, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2012, at her home surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Neil McCarter and parents Rev. James and Nora Evans.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Vickie and Mike Vassar, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Misty and Benji Myers, great-grandchildren Deven Anthony and Hallie Opal Myers, sister and brother-in-law Mary Catherine and Don Ball, all of Newport; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Sharon Evans of Piney Flats; nieces Rayann Gullett of Avon Park, Florida and Sherree Dubis of Merrimack, New Hampshire; nephew Denny Evans of Oakland, Tennessee; special caregiver Sue Henderson, and special pet Rocky.

Jean retired from Detroit Gasket where she had given several years of her work. She also dedicated many years of her life to being an active member of the Alpha Eta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International here in Newport. Jean loved to travel and see new places.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home West Chapel with the funeral to follow. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their generous help and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
