Harland 'Bill' Hayes, age 69, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at his home.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Bill was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents Doc and Inez Hayes and sister Annette Gaines.

He is survived by his wife Valerie Hayes, sons Dennis L. Davis and James W. Falana, daughters Diane Owenby and Barbara Hicks, and Rick Dover, who was like a son to him; brother Butch Atkins; grandchildren Stephanie, Nicholas, Ashley, David, Emily, Nolan, and Phillips; great-grandchildren Billy Bob, Daphne, Kevin, Jr., Xavier, Madeline, and Aaliyah; and also other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Hayes Cemetery.
