Alfred Phillips, age 94, of Bybee, passed away peacefully
at his home Monday afternoon, December 3, 2012.
He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church.
He was a United States Army World War II veteran, having
served in the Philippines.
He worked for the Cocke County Highway Department for 32
years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Maggie
Phillips; parents Harrison and Betty Phillips; son Alfred Phillips, Jr.; daughter
Wanda Lane; granddaughters Debbie Frazier and Tina Sutton; grandsons Rev.
Jeffery Sutton and Freddy Lane; two infant grandsons; brothers Charlie and
Melvin Phillips; and sisters Viola Phillips, Della Haney, and Margie Hooper.
He is survived by his sons Buster and Carolyn Phillips of
Morristown, Rev. Roy and Ann Phillips of Newport, Randy Phillips of Newport,
and Michael and Wanda Phillips of Bybee, with whom he made his home; daughters
Jeanette Kirkpatrick of Morristown; son-in-law Fred Lane of Morristown; Betty
and Rev. J. L. Sutton of Newport, and Bobbie Jean Phillips of Newport;
daughter-in-law Rachel Phillips of Jefferson City; sister Beulah Evans of
Newport; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and fifteen
great-great-grandchildren; also other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday,
December 6, 2012, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Watts, Rev. Junior
Loveday, and Rev. Cline Franklin officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Friday, December 7, 2012, in Ogle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
