Charles (Charlie) Raymond Coffey, age 74, of Morristown,
passed away Friday evening, November 23, 2012.
He was born June 1, 1938, to the late Herman Luther
Coffey and Annie Belle Owen of Morristown.
He retired in 1993 from BASF after 40 years because, in
his words, "Work got in the way of the party." Six years later, in
1999, he got clean and sober and stayed that way until his passing.
He enjoyed watching Lady Vols basketball, reading Civil
War history, coin collecting, yard work, gardening, bird watching, anything
weather-related, arrowhead hunting, being in the woods, camping, afternoon
naps, and all sports in general, as long as the sound was down, because no one
could broadcast a game better than Mickey Dearstone.
In addition to his father and mother, Charlie was
preceded in death by his older brother James Coffey, older sister Doris Coffey
Hodge, and his wife Marie Brinkley Coffey.
He is survived by his daughter Pam Coffey Harmon and her
husband Brad Harmon of Knoxville, daughter Lisa Coffey of Jamaica Plain,
Massachusetts, and son Michael Coffey of Morristown; grandson Beau, Jake, and
Cody Baker and Caleb Coffey, all of Knoxville; two new great-granddaughters
Georgiana and Koreena Baker; sister-in-law Sybil Coffey of Morristown; lots of
great friends: Bear and Rose Moore, Danese Crawford, Vaughn and Jeanine Jones;
goddaughter Stacey Jones; childhood friend Bill McCoig; special neighbor Bennie
Leach and surely many we don't know.
Charlie didn't want any kind of funeral service. His
request was to be cremated and his cremains to be spread on the bank of a creek
"way" up in the woods!
