Mrs. Eleanor Janice Evans passed away Monday evening,
November 5, 2012, at Tennova Hospice in Knoxville.
She was born September 19, 1929, in Sylva, NC. Her
parents were M.G. (Sassafras) and Bonnie Roberts. After graduating from Cosby
Academy she graduated from East Tennessee State College in 1951 with her BS
Degree.
Eleanor married Raymond Evans in 1951 at First Baptist
Church in Newport. They moved to Nashville in 1955. Eleanor began her career
working in the art department of the Sunday School Board of the Southern
Baptist Convention. Later she moved back to Knoxville and worked for the
Knoxville Business College. She eventually married Ab Luther, whose parents
owned Knoxville Business College. While in Knoxville she joined the First
Baptist Church. Her husband Ab passed away in 2004, following a lengthy
illness. She re-married Raymond in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents M.G. and Bonnie
Roberts, grandson Matthew Luther, and her brother and his wife Ted and Bernice
Roberts.
Eleanor is survived by her husband Raymond Evans of
Knoxville, her niece Melissa Huskey and her husband Mike of Sevierville,
nephews Darrell Roberts and his wife Barbara of Sevierville, and David Roberts
and his wife Dena of Gatlinburg, step- daughter Elizabeth Walker of Knoxville,
step-son Josh Craven of Knoxville, cousins Sylvia Costa of Morristown and Tip
Brown of Newport, and loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law Juanita and
Dennis Burgess of Newport.
A graveside service will be conducted by family members
at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Union Cemetery. Family and
friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45. Interment will follow in Union
Cemetery.
