Sallie Ann Smith, age 67, of Newport, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father Orlie Homer Wood, Sr.

She is survived by her husband James A. Smith, Sr.; daughter Jeanie Ann Smith; son James A. "Jimmy" Smith, Jr.; two grandchildren: James Courtney Smith and Amanda Kate Smith; mother Cora Wood; brothers Orlie Homer Wood, Jr. and Jakie Charles Wood; sisters: Christine Willis, Mary Ann Wood, Della Jane Allen, Barbara Baker, and Patricia Gail Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Rev. James Suggs and Rev. Ransom Hall officiating.

The family met at the Mantooth Cemetery on Saturday, November 14, 2009, for an 11:00 a.m. interment.

The family received friends Friday, November 13, 2009, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
