Mr. Lucas Richard Coggins, age 68, of Parrottsville,
loving husband and beloved father, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009,
after a courageous battle with ALS.
Lucas was born in the Old Fifteenth community of Del Rio,
and he graduated from Parrottsville High School in 1961. He was first employed
as a maintenance mechanic by Stokely Van-Camp and retired as a maintenance
supervisor from Con-Agra in 2003.
A respected community member, skilled carpenter, and avid
sportsman, Lucas will be remembered as a simple and kind man and as a devout
Christian.
Lucas was preceded in death by his father Furman Coggins
and mother Georgia Ford Coggins; brother-in-law Charles "Chock"
Ottinger and nephews Charles Donald Smith and Jeffrey Andrew Coggins.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years and beloved
caregiver Phyllis Mathis Coggins of the home; three daughters and their
families: Trina Coggins and Christie Bunkley, Shawna and David Murrell, and
Nikki and Bob Rouleau; four treasured grandchildren: Beth Murrell, Ike and
Sophie Rouleau, and Zach Bunkley; his brother A. V. "Rip" (Gladys)
Coggins and sisters Valire Ottinger, Iva Lee (Gordon) Denton, and Stephane
Banks.
Lucas is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and loyal
friends including special friends Curt Gribble, Charles Lovell, and Norman
Blazer.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 15, 2009
from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
A memorial celebration will be held Monday, November 16,
2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Brooks
officiating. Those wishing to follow in procession from the funeral home to the
church will gather at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow the memorial service in the
Forest Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made
to the ALS Association, Tennessee Chapter, P. O. Box 40244, Nashville, TN
37204.
