ROY E.
"TOAD" FARRAR, JR., age 85, of Dandridge, TN passed away Saturday,
October 24, 2009 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
He was destined for a life in funeral service, as he was
born in Stetzer Funeral Home February 14, 1924. Later that same year, his father and grandfather founded
Farrar Funeral Home.
As a young man, he spent several years in Rogersville, TN
attending school and assisting his Uncle Jack Taylor in the operation of Taylor
Funeral Home.
A life-long funeral director, he was active in the
Dandridge community where he was a charter member of the Dandridge Volunteer
Fire Department and the Jefferson County Rescue Squad, and a member of the
Dandridge Lions Club where he earned the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Among his other civic and community
activities were memberships in Brazelton Lodge #190 F & AM, Scottish Rites
Bodies, the Kerbela Shrine, the Dandridge First United Methodist Church, and
the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association. A man truly dedicated to Dandridge and Jefferson County
through his many acts of service, he was awarded the Jefferson Countian of the
Year Award in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Aileen
Taylor Farrar, Sr.; sister, Elizabeth Farrar Smith; brother, Joe T. Farrar;
sister-in-law, Jane Henry Farrar.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Pinky) Ward Farrar;
daughter, Pam Farrar; sons, Roy E. (Rick) Farrar III, Jack and wife, Tammie
Farrar; beloved grandchildren, Laura and Kelly Farrar, all of Dandridge;
brothers, James C. Farrar and wife, Agnes of Jefferson City, Dr. Bill Farrar
and wife, Frances of Brentwood, TN; sisters, Dorothy Smith and husband, Jim of
Bethel Park, PA; Brenda Juntumen and husband, Frank of Everson, WA; sister-in-law,
Betty Goforth Farrar of White Pine; several nieces and nephews; and his many, many friends from Memphis to
Mountain City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday,
October 29, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Dandridge with selected clergy celebrating
his life. The family will receive
friends Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday,
October 28, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in
Dandridge, TN. Family will also
receive friends Thursday morning, October 29, 2009 from 9:00 until 12:00 noon
at First Baptist Church prior to the service. Interment will follow the service
in Hillcrest Cemetery.
